The Gravel works of Ottendorf-Okrilla is located a few kilometers north of Dresden in Germany. The very first Moldavite found in Germany was collected by chance by a Agate
collector in the 60ies. There are about 19 more Moldavite localities in Germany but the predominantly locality for German Moldavites is Ottendorf-Okrilla.
It`s private property so permission is required to enter.
Moldavites from Germany are super rare. Because of their long geological transport from the strewfields in the Souht, Moldavites are much smaller in average.
The shapes are more roundisch oval and the surface is much more smooth than the Czech ones. But in Czech you can also find Moldavites with this "German" Look so the detailled collecting
history is essential for buying German Moldavites.
Through the gigantic machines used for the process, most Moldavites from Ottendorf-Okrilla are damaged.
Plenty of time, patience and luck is needed to find the green glass in this huge gravel pile. It took me 3 tries (about 20h) to find my first damaged little crump here.
0,88g my first Moldavite from Ottendorf-Okrilla
